In our part of the world, a rummage sale is a great swap of pre-owned and pre-used clothing, household effects, knick knacks, and "stuff!" Our community-renowned Rummage and Bake Sale takes place for two weeks each fall, in late October, and each spring, in May. With each event, there is a huge bustle as people come and go, giving and selling, buying and volunteering. Upcoming events
service and community liaison. Necessities can be reasonably had by those who live on a thin margin. Bargain-hunters make some wonderful purchases, and party-goers can find a costume for any occasion. The semi-annual rummage sales are also a significant fund-raiser for our congregation, as we sell, at low prices, items that have been generously donated to the church. Donations of clean clothing and household items are gratefully accepted at the rear door of the church. Call 762-2075 for pick-up of larger items. Volunteers are appreciated for set-up, sales, and take down. It's lots of fun!
great communal feast. Prominent among these is the Thanksgiving Potluck, where an open invitation is extended to young people all over town, and a large crowd enjoys both feast and entertainment. A similar dinner is held in mid-December and another in the spring. These become a time for people to meet each other in a relaxed atmosphere. Members and visitors are always welcome. Guess Who's
Coming to Dinner? identity remains a secret until they show up at the door. Similarly, if you sign up to eat out, you find out where you are going just before you leave. Each diner is asked to contribute their estimate meal's value to the Church coffers. Great food, good fun, and a boost to the budget!
Throughout the year, groups come together to participate in Bible study, examine a book, review a video series, or study and/or participate in a practice, such as prayer study or healing touch. These activities always provide new ideas to push you or tease you into new ways of living the faith.
The UCW meets on the first Tuesday of each month for fellowship, study and project planning and administration. The group is open to women of the congregation of any age who are interested in furthering the work of the United Church in Banff and beyond.
